New materials have always had a major impact on the design discipline. However, the confrontation with resource scarcity, climate and biodiversity crises leads designers to an increased reflection and a new urgency in the use of materials, their origin and production. Ecological requirements and their social and economic conditions are in focus.
bayern design and the Neues Museum Nürnberg will jointly present a design exhibition on the topic of new materials in the six façade rooms of the museum from April 21, 2023. The exhibition illustrates how designers today not only use new materials in their design, but also explore more sustainable and innovative materials and processing methods themselves.
To this end, the exhibition brings together selected design studies and objects in the three chapters Research, Application and Speculation. The exhibits illustrate how designers:inside are using new and responsible materials not only as functional materials, but are consciously using them as design elements.
The exhibition will open on April 20 at 7:00 pm. Admission is free, but registration is requested.
Further information on the exhibition can be found here and on the program pages of the Neues Museum Nürnberg.
