29. June 2017
bayern design, international design center and organizer of Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW), celebrates its 30th anniversary with its members, supporters, colleagues and invited guests. Following the motto “Design. Business as unusual.”, the event will take place on July 5, 2017 at Faber-Castell Castle in Stein near Nuremberg, where bayern design GmbH was founded. Keynote speakers from the political sector will include Franz Josef Pschierer, State Secretary at the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology, and Harald Riedel, Financial Officer of the City of Nuremberg.
“Brand pioneer Graf Anton W. von Faber-Castell demonstrated a great deal of foresight when he founded bayern design. The design sector has undergone changes in the past 30 years and has become highly differentiated. Today, a high level of design competence is crucial for companies to maintain a competitive edge. Only at the forefront will they be able to persevere in the market,” says Rolf Schifferens, Chairman of bayern design forum e.V. and Member of the Management Board of Faber-Castell AG.
Dr. Silke Claus, Managing Director of bayern design GmbH, adds: “Design competence is the hidden champion of the Bavarian economy. Quality, aesthetics and usability are the basis for well-designed products to become successful in the global arena. In addition, in times of digital transformation design increasingly is becoming an essential location factor. Important tasks are waiting for designers in the fields of the Internet of Things (IOT), innovation management and service design.”

bayern design – development and impact
In cooperation with partners in the corporate sector, Bavarian entrepreneur and brand pioneer Anton W. Graf von Faber-Castell initiated in 1987 the foundation of the Designforum Nürnberg e. V. association. What started out as a local initiative of mid-market entrepreneurs and freelance designers soon evolved into a center for design competence known across regional borders. In 1999, the association relocated its offices to prestigious Klarissenplatz adjacent to Neues Museum für Kunst und Design in Nuremberg.
Since 2001, Designforum Nürnberg e. V. has been the supporting association behind newly founded bayern design GmbH, which is sponsored by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology to coordinate all public design activities in Bavaria. bayern design GmbH was founded in cooperation with Design Zentrum München e. V., which withdrew its participation as a shareholder and discontinued its activities a short time after. As the only supporting association of bayern design GmbH remaining, Designforum Nürnberg e. V. consequentially was renamed bayern design forum e. V. in 2005.
On the occasion of its 20th anniversary in 2007, bayern design GmbH opened the bayern design lounge at Nürnberg Messe, giving trade fair visitors from around the world the opportunity year-round to obtain information regarding Bavaria as a site for design. bayern design GmbH plays a key role in positioning the state’s creative location potential on a global scale. In 2011, bayern design GmbH established offices in Munich, where MCBW, an international platform and the largest design event in Germany, has been organized every year since 2012. The Kingdom of Denmark became the first MCBW Partner Country in 2015. Later that year at EXPO Milano 2015 bayern design GmbH presented “Smart Innovation – Design from Bavaria”, a showcase of unique solutions, sustainable design ideas and future-oriented approaches to design originating in Bavaria.
Thanks to numerous activities conducted in Germany and abroad over the past 30 years, bayern design GmbH has evolved into a world-renowned center for design competence in Bavaria.
