State of Design
10. October 2017
It is not about whether change is needed: we are in the thick of it—locally, globally, digitally, politically, socially, ecologically. How to set the course for a society in flux? And who should? Aiming for desires, yet fearing the unknown, we need space and dialogue. Space for experiments, research and observation; dialogue between experience, innovation and interests to challenge, investigate and adapt predominant structures in their self-conception.
The exhibition VICIS // ALWAYS CHANGE A RUNNING SYSTEM presents national and international designers, with their work on the seek for new directions and solutions on many levels.
Different origins and biographies yield different challenges, processes and outcomes. Creation and co-shaping demands space and dialogue, that needs to be provided, occupied or even hidden away—depending on the current living and working conditions.
Space and dialogue will be found plentifully in the exhibition, with objects, presentations, talks, debates and get-togethers, spread over 430 sqm and five floors.
The Hochbunker/Blockhouse was built in 1941 in the historic center of Munich to give 1200 people shelter on six floors from air strikes during WWII. Now, 76 years later, it will be carefully transformed into a new center for exhibitions and events on architecture, city and design. With a permanent exhibition on the urban development of Munich, a mock city and changing exhibitions about latest national and international subjects, a platform for an open debate on building culture. As a cooperation between the city and the Architekturgalerie München, a space will be created for good ideas, an “Experimentierfeld” for creative minds, a meeting point for interested parties from oll over the world.
VICIS // ALWAYS CHANGE A RUNNING SYSTEM is one of few exhibitions hosted there before planned modifications start.
The Architekturgalerie considers itself as a platform for debating around architecture and other associated matters examining space, such as photography, video, stage design, sculpture and design. The openings of the exhibitions are connecting a broad band of people and are fostering a lively debate around architecture and planning.
