30 years of bayern design
09. May 2017
In 1987, Bavarian entrepreneur and brand pioneer Anton W. Graf von Faber-Castell and his partners initiated the founding of Designforum Nürnberg e. V. What started out as a local initiative of mid-market businesses and freelance designers quickly developed into a competence center for design known beyond state borders. In 1999, the association relocated its offices to the prestigious premises adjacent to Neues Museum für Kunst und Design in Nuremberg. Designforum Nürnberg e. V. has been supporting bayern design GmbH since 2001. On behalf of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology, bayern design GmbH coordinates all publicly subsidized design activities in Bavaria. Consequentially the supporting association renamed itself bayern design forum e. V. in 2005. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary bayern design opened the bayern design lounge at the Nuremberg fairgrounds in 2007. Year-round, the bayern design lounge provides trade fair participants from around the world with information regarding Bavaria as a site for design. In 2011, bayern design GmbH opened a branch in Munich which has been organizing the annual Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW) since 2012. The Kingdom of Denmark was the first partner country to participate in MCBW in 2015. In the same year, at Expo in Milan, following the motto “Smart Innovation – design from Bavaria” bayern design GmbH showcased outstanding solutions, sustainable design ideas and future-oriented approaches to design originating in Bavaria. Thanks to its many activities in Germany and abroad, over the course of 30 years bayern design GmbH has evolved into a world-renowned design center for the state of Bavaria.
bayern design will celebrate the Jubilee with its members, supporters, trackers and invited guests on 5 July 2017 at the Faber-Castell Castle in Stein near Nuremberg and also take a look into the future of design.
On the occasion of the anniversary, bayern design also presents its members in a loose sequel on Facebook:
