We invite you to Social Design Days in Nuremberg from October 7 to 9—three days packed with insights, inspirations, workshops, and discussions! Given that almost one-third of people in Germany are of immigrant descent, this year’s event will focus on the topic of growing together in a diverse society and economy.
Our keynotes, panels, case studies, and workshops will show how design can mobilize and inspire, enabling the opportunities and potential offered by that diversity to be harnessed and put to effective use within businesses, local governments, and society.
Urban spaces that facilitate encounter; corporate cultures that build identification; sporting activities that bring people together: Good design connects people with different lives and origins, creates a sense of belonging, and fosters active participation.
The event will span Talks, the Jam, and Workshops in an exciting program featuring international speakers and experts with a focus on success stories, potential, and challenges from business and society.
Workshop with Anders Gründen From Idea to Impact – How Social Business Models are Created How can an idea be turned into a business model that creates social impact while also being economically viable? In this interactive workshop, you’ll gain practical insight into the fundamentals of social business models and learn how to use the Social Business Model Canvas to structure and further develop your own ideas.
The workshop will be conducted primarily in German. Accommodations will be made for English-speaking participants as needed.
Workshop with the Social Entrepreneurship Akademie Learning and Working with Proven Models from Established Social Enterprises In this Social Design Workshop, project leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs will learn tips and tricks drawn from real-world implementation experience and how to apply them to their own challenges. Together, in a playful and collaborative way, participants will develop initial ideas for solutions to their own projects. The startup advisors at the Social Entrepreneurship Academy have been successfully guiding social startups from the early stages through to scaling for many years. Come and be inspired!
Workshop with the ReDI School of Digital Integration Belonging by Design—How can we design spaces where people truly feel a sense of belonging? The workshop explores how a sense of belonging is created within organisations, municipalities and professional environments and as well as identifying where design, language, processes, and digital services may unintentionally create barriers.
The workshop combines lived experience, reflection and social design. A ReDI community member with an international background will contribute a personal perspective, which then serves as a starting point for participants to identify barriers and develop ideas for creating more inclusive environments.

The Talks program will discuss how design of spaces, brands, and processes can create access, reinforce identification, and tackle discrimination across businesses, local governments, and civil society. Keynotes and case studies will come from international designers, researchers, and entrepreneurs, with topics ranging from design credibility and open company culture to inclusive sportswear design.
Speakers will include Gabriel Fontana (Designer, Paris / Rotterdam), Simon Usifo (Marketing Expert, former CEO BBDO Germany), Annika Storch (HfG Offenbach), Zijad Doličanin (VAIR e.V., Offenbach), Erol Yildiz (Professor for Migration-Education-Diversity, University of Innsbruck), Katharina Fritsch (1. FC Nürnberg – Community & Membership, Sustainability), Katrin Nissel (Zentrum für Interkulturelles Management & Diversity, Hochschule Bremen), Fabrizio Urettini (Talking Hands, Treviso), and Huda Smitshuijzen AbiFarès (Khatt Foundation, Amsterdam).

The Jam is the centerpiece of the Social Design Days. The interactive workshop develops solutions to make the world of tomorrow a better and fairer place. This year we will work with the team from the Work and Stay Center Mittelfranken to address challenges faced by people of immigrant descent starting a new job in Germany. Supported by experts from Urban Lab and bayern design, the Jam is open to all participants irrespective of their career background.

The event is aimed at company professionals, local government, the design and creative sector, and anyone with an interest in the topic and in getting involved.
In 2023, we launched a new festival: Social Design Days in Nuremberg, which is three days of workshops, interactive events, and a symposium of high-caliber speakers. The festival welcomes everyone because a tenet of social design is that skills and talents should be shared to overcome challenges within society efficiently and effectively and make the world a better place. Social Design Days in Nuremberg is hosted by bayern design in cooperation with the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Central Franconia.
One part of Social Design Days is Design Jam. At this interactive workshop, the challenges to be discussed for cross-innovation are determined from responses to our open call. The workshop addresses designers, professionals, and everyone eager to get involved. Social Design Days in Nuremberg takes place in autumn.
